Week 6:

This week was all about research. I began developing my plan of what areas of research I am going to pursue. I also realized this week that I have been assuming that social media has a negative affect on college students. However, this could be untrue. Through research, hopefully, I will be provided more insight.

To start, my plan is to begin collecting secondary sources. I have already searched and taken notes on a few online articles:

https://www.mcleanhospital.org/essential/it-or-not-social-medias-affecting-your-mental-health

https://www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk/blogs/anxiety-loneliness-and-fear-missing-out-impact-social-media-young-peoples-mental-health

https://www.helpguide.org/articles/mental-health/social-media-and-mental-health.htm

https://www.center4research.org/social-media-affects-mental-health/

Aside from articles, I hope to find videos that may provide further information. With the information that I gather from secondary research, I will begin to develop my survey questions.

For primary research, I will conduct a Google Form survey. I believe a survey will be a good research method because all answers will be anonymous, which will hopefully make participants more comfortable and lead to honest answers. I was also thinking about finding a therapist to consult, but, after further evaluation, I am not so sure if this research source is 100% necessary (I have not completely decided yet). My reasoning is because I am trying to focus on the experiences of my audience/the experts: college students. As a result, I do plan on interviewing at least one college student to see how social media has affected their mental health.

Next steps include furthering my secondary research, developing my survey questions, and sending out the survey!
